Help Us Raise $5,000 This Giving Tuesday

Let’s kick off the Giving Season in style! Help the Magenta Foundation raise $5,000 for printing expenses for our high school students.

Giving Tuesday is on November 30, 2021, and we want to honour our mandate so that all of our students are set up for success.

YOU can help us reach our goal of $5,000 to cover costs associated with printing high school students’ final portfolios and year-end gallery shows.

The money raised will cover expenses including fine art printing paper, ink cartridge, and art supplies.

Here’s why this is important: while we do live in a digital world, physical presentations of student work are critical for their motivation, confidence, and success. Your generous gift makes a DIRECT IMPACT.

If you don’t believe us, just read the teacher testimonials below and donate!

Success Stories from Previous Years

Sonja Brittain at John Polanyi Collegiate Institute, 2019

When students are using up-to-date and professional grade supplies, they come to their work with a better attitude. They care more about the final product—especially if it is mounted and displayed. This would also allow them to include their school work in their portfolios that they may be preparing for post-secondary entrance requirements. (Something that is very stressful for students.)

Student engagement is critical, and when they work hard to create an image that merits printing, the final print represents some of their success. It is an earned privilege to print work. Any funds that are directed our way will be put to excellent use and will be used by students who otherwise have no access to the arts.

Our school is in the top 10 of the LOI (Learning Opportunities Index) as ranked by the Toronto District School Board. This basically means that are students are at a great disadvantage due to poverty and the educational level of their parents. Roughly 40% of our students are English language learners and were not born in Canada. The extra funding and extra-curricular opportunities are so important to them. So, thank you for your support!

Glenn Novak at The Etobicoke School of the Arts, 2018

Etobicoke School of the Arts (ESA) asked Magenta to help us with our printing costs for our 8th Portfolio Day event (PD8). Our portfolio day had over 80 of the best arts schools in the world sending over 100 representatives to ESA to meet and interview our Grade 12 Contemporary Photography and Art students. Support from our role in Flash Forward Incubator (FFI) 2016 helped to cover the cost of over 5,000 square feet of printing for the 41 Contemporary Photography students who participated in this event.

So here is the good news–the 80 Contemporary Photography and Art students that were involved with PD8 have so far, earned over $15 million dollars in scholarship offers. The eight grade 12 students that were involved in FFI 2017, themselves, have over $8 million dollars in scholarships, including seven full ride offers, to American and Canadian universities between them.

Clearly, the system that ESA and FFI have put into practice works. We really believe in our program and in 2018 we are seeing that student achievement is resulting in immediate, measurable and long-term success (acceptance into and funding for, a top level post-secondary education).

Invest in the creations and imaginations of Canada’s artistic future! Donate here and help us reach our $5,000 goal this Giving Tuesday!

Every dollar helps so we are asking you to please pledge either $25 or $50 to help us reach our target.

Thank you for your continued support.
