Help Us Raise $40K for the FIRST EVER Toronto Pride Publication STARTING NOW.

Magenta is partnering with The ArQuives to create the FIRST Toronto Pride book and exhibition.

But we need your help.

We’re taking part in the Great Canadian Giving Challenge to raise $40K for a new project: Toronto Pride 1970 to Present as Seen Through the LGBTQ2+ ArQuives.

This trailblazing project relies on everyone’s generosity, and we can’t do it without your support!

DONATE ON CANADA HELPS NOW

Magenta is teaming up with Ryerson Film + Photography Preservation and Collections Management students to create this exciting exhibition. This multi-year project is the first time that Pride Toronto will be presented to the public as an exhibition and publication in 2023, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the ArQuives. Ryerson students (our future Canadian curators) are working away to archive this important legacy.

The significance of Toronto Pride to social development in Canada has never been seen in its historical context.

This is a big deal and we need your help to move forward.

Every dollar raised counts.

If you give generously, we’re offering exclusive rewards we’ve never given out before.

  1. $5,000 Donation – TOP VIP! – ONLY 1 spot

Custom accent wallpaper for your home, featuring an image from noted photographers Ryan Walker or Laird Kay. Includes in-person expert consultation, printing AND installation!

We might not be able to travel right now, but we can create a visual escape in your home with a custom curated art wall designed specifically for your personal space. Clare Vander Meersch is a photo editor at the Globe and Mail and art consultant. She will come to your house and work with you to create an accent wallpaper wall. This showpiece can size up to 5 feet high and 6 feet wide. Please note this reward is limited to the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area.

We have selected two very different bodies of work to choose from donated by Magenta photographers Ryan Walker and Laird Kay. Ryan Walker is a Toronto-based photographer, specializing in documentary, editorial photography, and visual advocacy. Walker’s work has been exhibited in Canada, Italy, Australia and the U.S. He has also received several awards, grants, and scholarships including PDN’s Emerging Photographer (Fall 2017), Magenta Flash Forward Emerging Photographers award, an Ontario Graduate Fellowship, and a Magnum Photos scholarship.

Laird Kay is an aviation photographer who is inspired by planes and their design. His work can be seen in Air Canada’s enRoute magazine, Travel & Leisure magazine, APEX Experience magazine, and BBC News among many others. You can find his aviation, architectural and travel photography in corporate and private collections in Canada, US, UK.

The lucky winning bid will choose one image from two very distinct bodies of work for consideration: Ryan Walker’s images of nature-based landscapes or Laird Kay’s slick graphic design compositions of airplanes. All printing and custom installation will be carried out by the Magenta team and is included in the cost. THIS is a ONE OFF custom wallpaper photo for your house or office!
