The Bob Carnie Legacy Project

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a printmaker for countless photographers, galleries, estates, and private collectors. My approach has always been deeply collaborative—working closely with artists and clients to explore a wide range of creative possibilities. Whether through silver gelatin, inkjet, Cibachrome, C-prints, gum bichromate over palladium, or film development, my commitment remains the same: to craft prints that align with each client’s unique vision.

About The Bob Carnie Legacy Project

In collaboration with Silvershack, The Magenta Foundation is proud to present a landmark project celebrating Bob Carnie’s extraordinary nearly fifty-year career in printmaking. A master of his craft, Carnie’s dedication to darkroom techniques and traditional printing stands as a powerful testament to their enduring artistic and historical significance.

This Legacy project highlights the remarkable scope of his work, which has profoundly shaped Canada’s photographic landscape.

About the Project

This retrospective is a celebration of Bob’s lifelong dedication to photography and printmaking—an opportunity to honor the craft he’s devoted his career to mastering. More than just a look back, it’s a way to preserve and inspire a deeper appreciation for these enduring traditions.

Education has always been central to Bob’s work. He’s passionate about sharing his knowledge with emerging artists and curators, ensuring these techniques thrive for generations to come. This exhibition and publication will be a testament to the vitality of alternative photography, printmaking, and film. Despite changing times, these mediums are very much alive—and we hope to ignite curiosity that keeps them flourishing.

The upcoming exhibition and publication will showcase the breadth of work Bob has printed over the years, featuring pieces created for artists across genres, eras, and geographies. Each print reflects a distinct process, provenance, and collaborative journey—a testament to the enduring power of the craft.
